Cultural differences between trading partners, team members or negotiation opponents may have crucial influence on the result.

Cultural differences impact mostly communication. The best way how to avoid unpleasant situations and misunderstanding is to research information about the other person’s culture beforehand. 

Context is crucial. An innocent joke in our culture can mean a severe offense in another. It is therefore important to prepare for such a meeting, learn about the national customs, traditions and even as seemingly obvious things as greeting rituals. In Europe we are used to a handshake, but that doesn’t mean that it works everywhere else.

Understanding cultural differences can contribute to establishing a good business or professional relationship. A misunderstanding, however, can foil many opportunities.
